Kid City

Bring your kids across city limits... KidCity limits, that is!  Every weekend, kids up to age 10 will enjoy a full range of interactive, entertaining, hands-on programming to suit every ability and interest level.  They’ll get the same type of instruction done in contemporary and relevant ways, just like what goes on in the “big room” on Sundays with the adults.  There are activity stations unlike anything kids have at home, live worship specially designed to keep their attention and small group time to help them make connections from Bible stories to their own little lives!  And, there’s special take-home features given out monthly in a family magazine called “Guess What?!”

Barb Bierman - Children's Ministries Director

Barb BiermanBarb Bierman is basically a “big kid at heart” so working in Children's Ministries is a perfect fit for her!  She has 2 kids of her own, Erik & Aleke, who are the willing (most of the time) guinea pigs for all the ideas she has for new children`s activities.  Barb is a certified teacher and has taught at public and private schools in both Canada and the US during her career.  Now, she splits her days between working on staff at River City and duties as the Executive Director of the Ontario Federation of Independent Schools.  In her spare time, she loves music and gets her groove on by playing Dance, Dance Revolution and American Idol on Playstation.  She loves going to the movies, trying all the kinds of coffee at Starbucks, camping and parties with friends and family.   Her favourite quote – “Be the kind of girl who, when she wakes up in the morning the devil says, oh crap, she's up!”

KidCity News

Welcome to KidCity where kids up to age 10 get the opportunity to play, laugh and grow! Our programs feature something cool for every age, interest and background! Kids will enjoy our special activity stations where they can roam around and choose their favourite activities. They get to rock out to some pretty cool music with dance moves that are sure to keep them bopping all the way home. The Bible stories are presented in a way that’s built for pint-sized understanding and life-application. Kids will spend time in small groups that are age specific so they get to know each other and their leaders. Finally, take home one of our regular family magazines called "Guess What?!" where the fun and learning continues at home!

Right Now we’re talking about what Jesus did with his time while he lived on earth – who his friends were, what he taught and some pretty amazing things he did!  We’ll finish up this term right at Easter time, which coincidentally, was a very special time for him!

KidCity Parents

Hey Moms and Dads!

We know when you are looking for a new church, part of your decision-making will be about what's in it for your kids. We know this is important to you and that you are trying to make the best decisions for them. KidCity may be just what you’re looking for since many of the staff are parents themselves and we have take this seriously as we plan our season. Statistics say that parents are 2 to 3 times more spiritually influential to their children than any church program – that's why there are many take-home activities and communication opportunities for families to grow together as they attend River City Church. Once a month, every family will receive a magazine called Guess What!? It features family activities and ideas to reinforce some of the stuff that kids are experiencing in KidCity. Parents who are using this magazine say that it helps them participate along with their kids between Sundays! Statistics also say that if people do not get actively involved in a church before they reach their teen years, the chance of their doing so in their adult years is slim. Your kids will interact with energetic, fully trained and screened volunteers who are ready to introduce your kids to the world of Christianity – one that is fun! It is our hope that participation in our programs will enable your family to grow together and enjoy a relationship with God and this church for many years to come!

Registration opens every Sunday at 10:40am - kids and parents receive matching wristbands keeping safety and security a top priority. Kids will roam around and take in activity stations that consist of great activities they probably recognize but with unexpected twists sure to make for a fun morning. They will experience live worship very much like what you are experiencing in "the big room" at River City. They will hear a story and a teaching with "pint-sized" application for a kid’s life. They will have the opportunity to earn fantastic rewards and prizes. The hour will fly by and hopefully your kids will share all the details with you each and every week.

Safety in KidCity

The safety of your kids is a top priority in KidCity:
  1. KidCity Registration Security – all kids and parents registering in KidCity are given matching wristbands with numbers which are removed only when children are picked up at the end of the program. Once kids are registered, they do not leave the KidCity area. To provide additional security, parents are asked to take their kids to the washroom and enjoy the FREE continental breakfast before registering at KidCity. If your child should need you during the service, the number on their wristband will show up on the big screens letting you know you should make your way to KidCity right away!

  2. KidCity Volunteer Screening & Training – all volunteers in KidCity are screened by way of police background check (done every 3 years) and specialized training for working with children in a program setting. The volunteers are energetic and innovative and they are committed to making sure that your kids have a fun and safe experience every week!

  3. KidCity Health & Safety Standards – we hate "bugs" in KidCity but we know they're part of life. Everyone coming and going in KidCity is asked to use hand sanitizer to keep the passing of bugs at a minimum. We encourage parents to use the following health checklist when deciding whether or not to register their children:

    • No fever for 24 hours ahead of time
    • No diarhea or throwing up within the last 24 hours
    • been on anti-biotics for less than 48 hours
    • no discoloured nasal discharge (should be clear)
    • no persistent cough (especially the wet, phlegm kind)

If your child is not well enough to come to KidCity, River City also provides a courtesy family seating area in the "big room" so that kids and parents may attend services together.

  4. KidCity Abuse Prevention & Reporting – a sad reality of the world we live in but we are committed to appropriate and legal abuse prevention and reporting practices. Please feel free to download our policy and review it for your own peace of mind.
